When you come in for your physical, we often will check basic labs including cholesterol numbers. Does everyone need cholesterol checked every year? The simple answer is no! However, many of us do have a reason to keep a close eye on our levels. This can be family history, changes in diet and/or weight, or levels that have been slowly creeping up over the years.
When is the best time to test? Ideally, in the morning 8-12 hours after your last meal is the best time but as the article linked below discusses, fasting isn't always necessary.
How about labs at the new office? In the past, we have suggested that you come in a week before your physical to get labs drawn. While you can certainly continue to do so, that's not always convenient for everyone. If you prefer to get your labs drawn at the time of your appointment, we will schedule a free phone call with you the following week to review your numbers.
Remember...if you come in fasting please still be well hydrated! It'll make finding your veins a lot easier.
